Electrical and electronic equipment, as well as batteries and rechargeable batteries, may not be disposed of with household waste. Electrical and electronic equipment, and batteries, can contain hazardous substances which, if released, have grave negative effects on the environment, animals, and people's health.
You can identify the relevant electrical and electronic equipment and batteries by the crossed-out bin symbol:

The crossed-out bin on the type label or on the housing of your FRITZ! device or of your provider's devices means that you are required by law to dispose of the electronic device or used battery separately from household waste.
The following rules for the disposal must be adhered to:
- Every consumer is legally obligated to dispose of used devices and used batteries separately from their household waste.
- Every consumer is responsible for the deletion of personal data on the used device to be disposed of and/or returned.
- Before disposing of a used device, remove any batteries that can be removed easily without being damaged. You will find instructions in the manual for the FRITZ! device.
- Please bring the discharged used batteries to a local or retail collection point.
- Store damaged, swollen, or overheated used batteries separately and dispose of them at a suitable location as soon as possible.
- Before disposal, cover the terminals (e.g. with adhesive tape), especially for lithium batteries.
According to the criteria stipulated in § 17 par. 1 and par. 2 of the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG), distributors of electronic devices are obligated to accept returns of their products free of charge.
Under the Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (for Germany), as an online retailer of electrical devices, we are obliged to take back returned equipment under the following conditions:
- In the case of a previous purchase from us: When delivering a new electrical or electronic device to an end user, we will accept, free of charge, a used device of essentially the same functionality and of the same type from the end user at the point of delivery or in the immediate vicinity (1:1 return). We will also accept returns at the customer’s home address if the delivery took place there. Please contact our Customer Service in this regard.
- In the case of no previous purchase from us: We guarantee the return of used devices, none of which exceed 25 centimetres in any external dimension, via appropriate return options located within a reasonable distance (e.g. at our premises at Alt-Moabit 95, 10559 Berlin, Germany). The return is not tied to the purchase of an electrical or electronic device and is limited to three used devices per type of device (0:1 return). Please contact our Customer Service in this regard.
Other return options
Additionally, households can drop off their used devices free of charge at a municipal collection site. Small used devices (max. 25 cm) can also be returned free of charge at many larger retailers – even without purchasing a new device. Please ask the respective retailer for information on the drop-off location and the applicable terms and conditions. Collection and drop-off points are identified by the following symbol:

Used batteries can be dropped off free of charge at public collection points, such as supermarkets and electronics stores. FRITZ! participates in the GRS battery take-back programme. You can also return used batteries that we currently sell or have sold as new batteries to one of our distribution centres. If you are shipping items to our distribution centre, please be aware of the hazardous materials regulations of your chosen shipping provider, and we ask that you do not send batteries to us by mail. The addresses of our distribution centres are available from our Customer Service.
Collected used devices and used batteries are sent for proper disposal. The objective is:
- recycling and recovery of valuable raw materials,
- environmentally friendly disposal of non-recyclable components,
- avoiding environmental pollution caused by hazardous substances.
By returning used devices and used batteries separately, you are making an important contribution to conserving resources and protecting the climate, as well as to safety in waste management.
By extending the service life of your devices, you help to use resources efficiently and avoid additional waste. You can extend the service life of your devices by having faulty devices repaired. If your used device is in good condition, you could donate it, give it away or sell it.
You can reduce battery waste by:
- Using rechargeable batteries wherever possible.
- Choosing long-lasting, suitable battery types (the right size/technology for the device) to avoid premature failures.
- Storing and using batteries correctly (e.g. keep them dry, do not overheat them and do not fully discharge them) to extend their service life.
Further information on waste prevention for consumers can be found, for example, in the Federal Waste Prevention Programme, prepared by the Federal Government with the involvement of the German Federal States.
Compliance with the statutory targets (in particular take-back, collection, recovery and recycling targets) is regularly reviewed and published. Up-to-date information on the current status of target achievement, as well as the underlying analyses and key figures, can be found on the following official information pages:
