Cannot register a FRITZ! smart switch

Registration of the FRITZ! smart switch, for example FRITZ!Smart Control 440, to the FRITZ!Box or the FRITZ!Smart Gateway fails. After you push the DECT or Connect button on the FRITZ!Box or the FRITZ!Smart Gateway, the DECT connection is not established. The FRITZ!DECT smart switch is not displayed or is displayed with an inactive connection in the "Smart Home" menu in the FRITZ!Box or the gateway.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.

1 Maximum number has been reached

A certain number of smart home devices can be registered with the FRITZ!Smart Gateway. If you already registered the maximum number of devices, you cannot register any more.

2 Unlocking the buttons

  1. Click on 'System' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'Buttons and LEDs' in the 'System' menu.
  3. Click on the 'Button Lock' or 'Keylock' tab.
  4. Disable the 'Buttons locked' checkbox.

3 Disabling 'Reduce DECT field strength'

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'DECT' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Disable the 'Reduce DECT field strength' option in the 'Radio Field Strength' section.
  4. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.

4 Disabling 'DECT Eco'

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'DECT' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Disable the option 'DECT Eco' in the section 'Radio Field Strength'.
  4. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.

5 Enabling encryption

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'DECT' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Enable the option 'Permit only secure DECT connections (recommended)' in the section 'Security'.
  4. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.
  5. If the option was disabled, you must then restart the FRITZ!Box once using the user interface ('System > Backup > Restart').

6 Setting a PIN

For automatic registration to work, you must set the PIN to '0000' in the FRITZ!Box user interface:

  1. Click on 'Telephony' in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click on 'DECT' in the 'Telephony' menu.
  3. Enter '0000' as the PIN in the section 'Registration'.
  4. Click on 'Apply' to save the settings.

7 Resetting the FRITZ! smart switch and deregistering it

You can restore factory settings to the FRITZ! smart switch and deregister it. This deletes a faulty connection to the FRITZ!Box or the FRITZ!Smart Gateway and all of the settings that are preventing a connection from being established:
